Members and family of the ANARE Club mourn the death of Jocelyn Terry
"Our Girl Friday",
who hosted "Calling Antarctica" from 1954 to 1963.
Her warm voice and humorous personality always lightened our days.
Died 21 Nov. 2007, Age 87 years.
Sqn. Ldr. RAAF & C.O. Antarctic Flight at Mawson 1956, plus between 1954 & 1974 made several summer voyages
to AAT, conducting exploration flights in coastal areas and in the Prince Charles Mountains.
Died 03 Jan. 2008, Age 80 years.
Born in New Zealand in 1927, Bob began his long Antarctic career in the IGY at Campbell Island, then at Cape Hallett and at Scott Base.
In 1962 he wintered at the Australian station Wilkes as Station Leader (OIC). From there he led an overland seismic traverse of 900 miles
to the Russian inland station of Vostok and back. In 1965 he became the Director of the New Zealand Antarctic Division, made 78 trips
to Antarctica and established Vanda Station in the Dry Valleys near McMurdo Sound. In 1988 Bob retired from NZAD to live in the USA.
Died 1st Feb. 2008, Age 99 years.
Medical Officer with ANARE at Macquarie Is. in 1949, and at Heard Is. in 1953. He was also an enthusiastic ornithologist.
Died 12th January 2008.
ANARE Diesel Mechanic at Wilkes in 1960.
Died late October 2007.
ANARE Senior Diesel Mechanic at Macquarie Is. 1962 and 1968, and at Davis 1964 where he lost some toes due to frostbite.
Rex Ervin
Died 13 September 2007, Age 89 years.
As a BMR magnetician in the early 50s he helped in the calibration of Earth magnetism instruments at Macquarie Island, including visits to that Station.
Dr. Peter Fenton
Died 9th March 2008, Age 83 years.
A Cosmic Ray physicist, wintered at Macquarie Island in 1950/51.
Samual John "Jack" Starr
Died 2nd February 2008, Age 93 years.
Chef at Heard Island in 1951.
Kenneth Christopher Hall
Died 24th March 2008, Age 81 years.
Chef at Heard Island in 1952. Later worked as a Met Observor after RTA.
George T C Lowe
Died 21 April 2008, Age 96 years.

Michael O'Gorman
Died 26th March 2008.
Wintered-over at Davis 1959.
Ray Langtip
Died 14 June 2008.
