ANTARCTIC SERVICE MEDALLIONS

17 November 2009

Retrospective Antarctic Service Medallions have been available for collection from the Australian Antarctic Division since 1997. Until July 2002 an active search was undertaken by the AAD with most expeditioners, or their families, collecting their medallions. Since July 2002 unclaimed medallions  have been consigned to archives however they are of course available for future claims by the recipients, their next of kin, or families.

Patricia Wadington, Mary Mulligan, Vicki Norris, and no doubt numerous other helpers are to be sincerely thanked for their efforts over the 5 years of the search.

At the time of the Media release of 31 October 1997, 797 Expeditioners (with multiple winters 980 Medallions) had been identified.

If you have any information about the remaining 92 Expeditioners, or their families, please contact the AAD.
